Pascal (known in Spanish as [xo?se ?peð?o ?alma?seða pas?kal]; born April 2, 1975) is a widely recognized actor from Chile and the United States. After nearly two decades of small roles in both theater and TV, Pascal achieved his breakout role as Prince Oberyn Martell in the fourth season of the HBO fantasy show *Game of Thrones* (in 2014). He gained further prominence with the character of Javier Peña in the Netflix crime drama *Narcos* (2015–2017). He went on to appear in the films *The Great Wall* (2016), *Kingsman: The Golden Circle* (released in 2017), *The Equalizer 2* (2018), and *Triple Frontier* (2019).
Pascal's leading roles as Din Djarin, also known as "The Mandalorian," in the Disney+ science fiction series The Mandalorian (2019–present) and Joel in the HBO post-apocalyptic drama series The Last of Us (2023–present) propelled him to international stardom, and earned him a reputation for portraying characters who act as father figures. In *The Last of Us*, he earned many awards, including a Screen Actors Guild Award and a Golden Globe nomination. He extended his roles as parental figures in the movies *We Can Be Heroes* (released in 2020), *Strange Way of Life* (released in 2023), and as Fink the fox in *The Wild Robot* (scheduled for 2024). Pascal also appeared in major films such as *Wonder Woman 1984* (2020) and *Gladiator II* (coming in 2024).
Having started in theater in 1999, he appeared on Broadway for the first time as Edmund in a 2019 production of *King Lear*. Time magazine named him one of the most influential people of 2023 by Time magazine in the year 2023.
