Situational Leadership Theory: Adapting Leadership to Different Circumstances
This theory of situational leadership was formulated by Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard and states that the effectiveness of the leader is determined by the adjustment of one's style according to the situation. The leaders gauge their readiness and adjust the approach to give proper guidance to the team members. It bases its four kinds of leadership types on the competencies and commitments of team members: directing, coaching, supporting, and delegating. Thus, by granting suitable support and autonomy, the theory helps the leader maximize team performance.
